The Boosters Boosters hosted their 4th and final Pig Roast at the Beulah Village Park Pavillon on the afternoon of Saturday, August 10, 2013. People recall that in 2010 the Boosters celebrated the installation of the new Beulah Day Dock with the first Beulah Pig Roast. A special dedication of the day dock adjacent to the bathhouse on the eastern shore of Crystal Lake was held at that time. The Pig Roast was such a hit with the public that the Boosters chose to continue this event through 2013.
Always tending the fires that roasted the pork in the big iron pig were Bryce Robison of Crystal Lake Adventure Sports and John Darien of John Darien Homes North, LLC. Each year the menu was tweaked a a bit through the efforts of Bryce, John & Nicki Darien. Volunteer Boosters had lots of fun serving the delicious specially seasoned, fire-roasted pork that was accompanied by old-fashioned potato salad studded with cherry tomatoes; carrot sticks, potato chips, dessert mints and water. And best of all…the price had not changed from the original $10. Quite some deal!
Local band Uncle Ted’s Crawlers always played for everyone’s enjoyment. Folks enjoyed their yummy meal at the Park’s picnic tables under a large canopy, beneath one of the park’s lovely old shade trees or at the new Beulah Beach Waterfront. Carry-out was available for those wanting to eat elsewhere. People could travel across Crystal Lake to Beulah and secure their boat at the 8-slip Beulah Day Dock. All event proceeds continued to support day dock maintenance, annual events/activities planned for the community; and ongoing projects to enhance Beulah, such as the nets & posts of the new pickleball court.
2013 was the final year the Beulah Boosters held the Pig Roast. Though this originally had been a great family & community event, attendance fell sharply each year, making the effort and fundraising purpose less that profitable.
